Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
